Men arrested for delivery of controlled substance

Two men were arrested for delivery of a controlled substance after Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit and the Beckley Police Department Narcotics Unit conducted a joint investigation.

Police had been investigating William Ponder for several months, and detectives conducted several controlled buys Wednesday and Thursday at Ponder’s Mabscott residence.

Ponder was then arrested during a traffic stop in Beckley and charged with delivery of a controlled substance.

When detectives executed a search warrant at Ponder’s residence, they found another man, Barrington Allen, had been staying with Ponder. Allen was also arrested and charged with delivery of a controlled substance.

Ponder and Allen were arraigned before Raleigh County Magistrate Steve Massie and remanded to Southern Regional Jail.

Police are continuing their investigation.

Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Pill Diversion Task Force assisted with the execution of the search warrant.
