One person was injured during an early morning shooting Saturday in Beckley, city police said.
Capt. Jeff Shumate said the incident started in Oak Hill when two men got in a physical altercation.
Shumate said he didn’t know whether the suspect followed the victim home or knew where the victim lived, but around 5:10 a.m., the 21-year-old suspect went to the victim’s apartment on Hager Street, forced the door open and used an assault rifle to fire off rounds.
The occupant was struck in the forearm and taken to the hospital. He was later released.
Shumate added that rounds penetrated two other apartments beside the victim’s, but no one else was struck.
The suspect received injuries from the altercation and was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Upon release from the hospital, the suspect faces five counts of wanton endangerment and charges of malicious wounding, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, Shumate said.
The names of the suspect and victim were not released.
