— The Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual holiday celebration and new member welcome Tuesday, along with Visit Southern West Virginia and the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.

“It’s a networking event, just like Business After Hours,” said Joe Guffy, information coordinator at the Chamber.

“We call this one our new member welcome and holiday celebration. We partner with Visit Southern West Virginia and the Convention Center. They invite their memberships and clients so we can have a cross section of business and tourism.”

He said the event had over 250 reservations from both new members and former members.

Many participating new businesses offered door prizes, including Blackbird House Gourmet Gift Baskets, Comfort Inn of Charleston, Dickey’s BBQ, Family Coin Laundry, InShape MD, Moawad Health Services, Modern Woodmen of America, Security Group Services, Sweet Nothings Gourmet Cupcakes and Cakes, and University of Charleston — Beckley.

“University of Charleston Beckley campus has accepted our invitation,” Guffy said. “We knew they were talking about coming into town and we wanted to help them get a start in the community.”

Non-perishable food items and diapers were collected during the event to donate to the United Way of Southern West Virginia and local food pantries.

Live music was also provided by two band members from The Boatmen, Matt Mullins and Randy Gilkey.
