Hospice plans Angel Tree ceremony at mall

Hospice of Southern West Virginia will celebrate the season with its annual Angel Tree ceremony at 1 p.m. Nov. 30 at Crossroads Mall. Families can memorialize their loved ones by placing a named angel on the trees.

“The Hospice Angel Tree is one way that families can remember their loved ones this holiday season,” said Harold Dobbins, social services coordinator. “This can be a very difficult time of year, especially for those who have lost a loved one. Being able to place an angel on the tree can be a healing experience. There’s something very therapeutic about seeing your loved one’s name attached to an angel.”

Angels are available for any donation made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia. Anyone making a donation of $20 or more will receive an angel and a special 2012 keepsake ornament to take home for their family tree. Angels can be purchased by anyone, regardless of whether the loved one received hospice care.

“We look forward to this event each year,” said Executive Director Janett Green. “As we celebrate the joys of the season, it is also a time for us to remember those who have passed. The Angel Tree gives families the chance to memorialize their loved ones and look back on holiday memories. This is a fundraiser for Hospice of Southern West Virginia, but it is so much more than that.”

The ceremony will feature the St. Francis De Sales Youth Choir under the direction of Gerry Sibray.

After the ceremony the Angel Trees will be moved to the front entrance of the mall, next to the customer service desk. Angels can be purchased and placed on the trees through Dec. 31. All of the proceeds will support Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
