West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant is co-charing the Standing Committee on Voter Participation in the summer gathering of the National Association of Secretaries of State.
Appointed with her at the conference in Minneapolis was Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett.
“It is a great honor to be appointed to this position,” Tennant said Tuesday.
“It’s going to be an exciting year working with (Kentucky Secretary of State Trey) Grayson and Secretary Bennett, especially because it’s improving voter participation, which is a major focus of my office.”
Given legislation such as satellite precincts and early voting by mail, Tennant said she is assigning a high priority to voter participation.
The group’s first president was a West Virginian, Stuart Reed, who was secretary of state from 1909 to 1917.
Tennant said West Virginia will host the 2011 NASS summer conference, set for The Resort at Glade Springs.
