Shady Spring teen organizes fundraiser for food pantries

When the summer storms hit West Virginia, many communities and families found themselves without power leading to the loss of most, if not all, of their perishable food items.

Local food pantries found themselves scrambling to help. It left the pantries with low stock and fear of being unable to help with the approaching holidays.

Taylor Coleman, a senior at Shady Spring High School, wanted to help. Using Event Planning as her chosen Senior Project assignment, she has created a Food Drive and Car Show event at Shady Spring High School. The event scheduled for this Saturday, is promising food, fun games, cool cars and an effective way to help the local community.

Admission is only one can of non-perishable food per person ages 13 and up. The can gets you into the car show and the field.

All cans collected will be donated to a local food pantry.

Along with games for all ages, raffles and cake walks will be held every half-hour without buy-in.

“I just want to give back to the community that has given so much to me,” said Coleman.
