Some names released from Lavista wreck

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has released the names of some of the people involved in Saturday’s fatal accident along U.S. 60 near Lavista. One person was killed in the collision that involved five vehicles.

Carl Cox, 50, of Edmond was driving the Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling west when he attempted to pass in the eastbound lane another car that was also traveling west. Cox is in serious but stable condition at Charleston Area Medical Center, police say.

Cox’s vehicle struck head-on an eastbound Chevrolet Impala carrying three people: the driver, a 63-year-old man, who is listed in critical condition at CAMC; a front-seat passenger, a 64-year-old woman, who is in stable condition at CAMC; and a 91-year-old woman, who was dead at the scene. All of the individuals in the Impala are from Kentucky. Their names have not been released because police cannot confirm that their family members in Kentucky have been notified, Sheriff Steve Kessler said.

Also involved in the wreck were Timothy Elkins, 51, of Ravenswood, driving a Ford Fusion transporting passenger Stacie Mullins, 42, also of Ravenswood. Elkins was not injured and Mullins was treated for “minor injuries” at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill and released, police said.

A Jeep, driven by Emily Zann, 21, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Ray Kincaid, 53, of Leivasy, were the other vehicles involved. Both Zann and Kincaid were uninjured, police said.

Police think rain and fog were factors that contributed to the accident. No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation by Deputy C.M. Fitzwater.
