Anna Lou Browning

HICO — Anna Lou Browning, 79, of Hico, passed away at Fayette Nursing and Rehab on June 30th, 2013, following a long Illness.

Anna was born February 28, 1934 in Williamson, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Leona Spry Stafford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rubal W. Browning in 2011; a sister, Maude Brewer; three brothers, Frank Stafford, Kenneth Stafford Jr., Pete Stafford.

Anna was a member of Midland Trail Gardening Club, a retired school teacher and a member of the Ansted Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and also loved gardening, tending to her flowers and painting.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Stephen Browning and John Browning both of Hico; six grandchildren, Theresa Horton, Stephen Browning II, Kathryn Browning Young, John Browning Jr., Sarah Margaret (Meg) Keith, Becky Ann Piccard, and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sally Huffman of Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m.  Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Ansted, with Pastors Jack Eades and Doug Eades officiating. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Friends may gather with the family Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Santanea Gayle Spahr Byers

Santanea Gayle Spahr Byers, entered into this life on September 14, 1988 and departed us on June 17, 2013 after a long hard struggle.

She was a 2006 graduate of MHHS and attended Mountain State University.

Santanea loved spending time at the river drawing and writing poetry, four wheeling, fishing, and was and an avid animal lover and activist for them.

Santanea was always so full of life and love for her family and friends no matter what struggles she faced over the last several years.

Santanea is survived by her two precious sons, Jaden Aaron and Avery Edward who she so affectionately referred to as her “Piglet” and “Peanut”. Also left to cherish precious memories are her parents, Dawn Miller and Kristifer Spahr; brother, Tristen Miller; two sisters, Brittanie and Kourtnie; maternal grandparents, Dolly and David Bostie; paternal grandparents, Kreigh and Bobbi Spahr; as well as her special dog, Aleeda, who was her constant companion and source of comfort and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life and memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the sandbar located at the New River Park Service on Thurmond Rd in Thurmond, W.Va.  

All family, friends, and classmates are invited to attend. Please feel free to bring and share any photos, stories, memories, personal writings or tributes.

LEWISBURG — Michael Lee Critzer, 60, of Lewisburg, died Monday, July 1, 2013.

TIOGA — Grover Lester Curry, 80, of Tioga, Nicholas County, W.Va., died Monday, July 1, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 in the White Funeral Home at Craigsville with Pastor Eddie Groves officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Union Church Cemetery.

William A. ‘Bill’ Ellis

LEWISBURG — William A. “Bill” Ellis, 89, of Lewisburg, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013.

A Christian Mass will be 1:30  p.m. Saturday, July 6, at the St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church, White Sulphur Springs, with Father Engler Chapin officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, 102 N. Jefferson St., Lewisburg, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Bonnie Plumley Pack Helton

OAK HILL — Bonnie Plumley Pack Helton, 72, of Oak Hill, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

Born at Pear, W.Va., she was the daughter of Clifford Plumley and Pansy Smith Plumley.

Mrs.  Helton was a former retail sales clerk, having retired from Kmart. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Christian Church, and had made her home at Mt. Hope for greater part of her adult life.

Mrs.  Helton loved her “critters”, and enjoyed playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Dale Plumley.

Survivors include her husband, James Helton; five children: David Pack Jr. of Oak Hill,  Lisa Okes and her husband Tracy of Cool Ridge, Debbie Helton, Carol Mottram, and Sharon Helton, all of Sacramento, Cal.; two brothers, Bruce Plumley of Mt. Hope and Bert Plumley and his wife Edith of New Mexico; two sisters, Betty Jane Bennett and her husband Daris of Abraham, and Barbara Bazzie and her husband Joey of North Carolina.  Six grandchildren: Sharon Baker, Brantley Sanger, Thomas Okes, Michael Tessmann, Daniel Helton, and Jarron Mottram; great-grandchildren, Rylan Buskus, Cali Tessmann, Jeremiah Helton, Harland Todd II and Cameron Bowles.

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Bonnie Pack Helton on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dennis Kinzer officiating. Burial will follow at the Washington Plumley Cemetery at Plumley Mountain.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

RONCEVERTE — Teresa Morgan Hollar, 26, of Ronceverte, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013.

LOGAN — Owen L. Osenton, 83, of Logan passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at his home in Florida.  Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Honaker Funeral Home of Logan is in charge of arrangements.


Kim F. Parsons

MANDAN, N.D. —  Kim F. Parsons, 58, of Mandan, passed away peacefully at home with family and loved ones by his side, after a courageous battle with heart disease, on June 30, 2013.

Kim was born July 31, 1954 in Marshall, Mich. He was the oldest of four brothers and one sister.

Kim grew up in coal camps around southern WV, before the family settled in Crab Orchard, W.Va. Kim graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, in 1972. After high school Kim met the love of his life Linda Luther and they were married on October 21, 1977 in Glen White, W.Va.

Kim was very active in the WV Republican committee, the Beckley Gun Club, and multiple other gun clubs in WV. In 2011 Kim and Linda moved to Mandan, from their hometown of Crab Orchard. Kim got started right away as a member of the ND Republican committee as well as the Dakota Territory Gun Club. Kim was a member of the Elks lodge 1199, in Bismarck. Kim was also a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoyed going to ND and SD for gun shows.

Kim was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, especially with family and friends. He also enjoyed being an NRA certified instructor and loved teaching about gun safety. Kim’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of great integrity who touched many lives with his opinions and encouragement. Kim enjoyed traveling with Linda, spending time with family whenever possible. Kim loved animals and was so excited to take his young lab Lexi, hunting last fall. Kim really enjoyed “oldies” music and loved attending concerts.

Kim will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 36 years Linda of Mandan; his daughter, Lisa Bragg, husband Trent, and their son Cody, Houston, Texas; his son, Darrell Parsons, wife Shawna, of Mandan; his brother, John Mark Parsons, wife Loretta, Crab Orchard; sister, Dora Jones, husband Ross, MacArthur; sister-in-law, Charlene Parsons, Crab Orchard; mother-in-law, Effie Canaday, husband Carlie, Crab Orchard; father-in-law, Cecil Luther, wife Glinda, Destin, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Kim was preceded in death by his parents, Pastor Hansel E. Parsons I, Anna Marie Parsons, Crab Orchard; brother, David Parsons, Crab Orchard; and brother, Hansel E. Parsons II, Crab Orchard.

Yolanda ‘Peggy’ Carson Robinson

Yolanda “Peggy” Carson Robinson, 68, beloved daughter, mother, and grandmother, of Beckley entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2013 after a long illness. She was the widow of William Robinson.

Born October 15, 1944 in Glen Rogers, W.Va., she was the daughter of Mary Carson Benson of Cross Lanes and the late David Benson Sr. and sister of the late David Benson Jr. Her maternal grandparents, whom she loved dearly, were the late Benjamin and Gladys Carson.  

In addition to her mother, others left to cherish sweet memories of her include her two daughters, Marlene (James) Hackett, Ph.D., of Cross Lanes and Margaret (Martin) Njoku of Beckley; one son, Marvin (Rhonda) Wright Jr. of Maineville, Ohio; two granddaughters, Syreeta (Jamarr) Njoku Green of Knoxville, Tenn. and Moriah Njoku of Huntington, W.Va. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Yolanda was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.  She retired from Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital (BARH) in the business office with over 32 years of service.  

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Welcome Baptist Church, 206 8th Street, Beckley, with the Reverend David Allen officiating. Burial will follow the service in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, W.Va.

Friends may visit from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

Jenny Lynn Russell

LOCHGELLY — Jennifer Lynn “Jenny” Russell, 50, of Lochgelly, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at home.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 5th, 2013 at Fayetteville Baptist Church with Pastor Ron George Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday evening at the church.
