Woman arrested for wanton endangerment

A 19-year-old Beckley woman was arrested Friday for shooting a .22 caliber handgun at another woman in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store on Jan. 8, city police said.

Kerina Vaughn of Sixth Street was booked on charges of wanton endangerment. She was being held at Southern Regional Jail under $10,000 bond, Detective Cpl. Frank Priddy said.

Priddy said the Jan. 8 incident stemmed from an argument between Vaughn and a 30-year-old woman over a former boyfriend.

Vaughn was allegedly standing in the doorway of the store when the other woman drove into the parking lot in an SUV.

Priddy said Vaughn pulled out a .22 caliber handgun and fired several rounds at the victim.

“She missed the victim. However, the vehicle was struck. Rounds went in the driver’s side back window and broke the passenger-side back window,” Priddy said.

After being questioned, Vaughn confessed to the shooting.

“She said she intentionally shot the handgun, intending to shoot the victim,” Priddy said.

Police have not located the gun used in the incident.

Police ask that anybody with information on the whereabouts of the gun call Crime Stoppers at 304-255-7867 or Priddy at 304-256-1708.
