BECKLEY —
Want tickets to the Sept. 10 West Virginia University-Marshall University football game? Youth from the Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church are selling chances to win several tickets to the game. The drawing will be held Monday.
Sister Janice Rospert, director of religious education at St. Francis, explained that they received several tickets as a donation for students to raise money to attend World Youth Day in 2011. World Youth Day was created by Pope John Paul II and is held in August every third year.
“This is an opportunity for the youths to meet other youths from all over the world and to grow spiritually and become aware of different cultures,” she said. “The highlight of the celebration is the pope’s presence and holds Mass for the youth,” she added.
The event also includes Christian-centered concerts, talks and other activities.
Sister Janice pointed out that the event in August 2011 will be held in Madrid, Spain, and the church hopes to finance $3,000 per student so 14 area youths and three chaperones can attend.
If you are interested in purchasing a chance to win these tickets, inquire at one of the following locations: Party King Rentals & Sales, All Seasons Floral, Ride N Slide Sports, Creager Tire and Service Center or Shear Style.
If you would like to make a donation to help send these students to Spain, contact Sister Janice at 304-255-4694 or the youth director for the trip, Dina Cummings, through St. Francis’ main number, 304-255-4087.
