As Mountain State University’s final day is rapidly approaching, bookstore merchandise has been discounted 75 percent.
The sale excludes graduation items, textbooks, electronics and previously discounted items.
Roslyn Artis, provost of academic affairs, said the textbooks will hopefully be utilized by University of Charleston Beckley students in the spring.
She visited the bookstore Wednesday and said many items are still there.
“It’s a good time to buy things like school supplies, paper and pens. Those items are practically nothing. For parents who might want to stock up for school aged children, it’s a good time.”
Artis said she is unsure what will come of merchandise with Mountain State University logos if it goes unsold.
“Our hope is that people will still want it. Mountain State meant a lot to the community and it has a bit of a legacy. I know, obviously, it won’t be alive and well as it once was, but certainly there is a lot of alumni in Beckley we hope would be proud to wear Mountain State.”
MSU will cease operation Dec. 31. UC Communications Director Scott Castleman said the current bookstore will continue operating as a retail location once UC takes over Jan. 1, 2013.
