Monroe County woman, child reported missing

State Police are involved in the search for a Monroe County woman and her child who have not been seen or heard from in more than 10 days.

Family members last saw Melanie Pyne, 32, and her daughter, Hannah Marie Pyne, on Aug. 16, just two days after Hannah’s first birthday, according to Cpl. S.S. Keaton of the Union detachment of the State Police.

Although foul play is not necessarily suspected in the Lindside woman’s disappearance, Keaton said the length of time she has been out of touch with friends and family is causing concern.

“One other time she left for a couple of days,” the officer noted, “but this time she has the little girl with her. The main concern is for the 1-year-old.”

Keaton pointed out that Pyne only took about two days’ worth of clothes with her when she left, and her banking accounts had been used repeatedly in several locations “up and down the East Coast” from Daytona, Fla., to Beckley. The last bank account activity took place Aug. 21 in Raleigh County.

“Her sister reported that she was missing,” Keaton said. “The sister has tried to call her several times (since Aug. 16), but the calls went straight to voicemail. It doesn’t appear (Pyne) has tried to call anybody.”

Pyne also failed to report to work at a Shell station in Rich Creek, Va., as scheduled the Sunday after her disappearance. Neither her employer nor her co-workers have heard from her since, Keaton said.

“The family has checked with friends, and there’s no sign of (Pyne or her daughter),” he said.

Police believe Pyne is driving a 2009 baby blue Toyota Camry with West Virginia tags bearing the number 5PX 947.

Pyne is 5-foot-6 and weighs around 215 pounds. She wears glasses and has a barbwire tattoo on her upper left arm.

Hannah weighs approximately 22 pounds and is 30 inches tall.

Both are blue-eyed blondes.

Anyone with information about the missing mother and child should call the Union State Police detachment at 304-772-5100.
