Man sentenced to prison for selling painkillers

A Fayette County man was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver Jr. to three years and 10 months in prison for selling prescription painkillers.

Vernon Peters III, 35, of Kincaid, pleaded guilty in May to distribution of oxycodone.

He sold three 30-milligram oxycodone tablets to a police informant March 20, 2012, at his Fayette County residence.

The previous day, West Virginia State Police seized approximately 17 firearms and 236 marijuana plants from Peters’ residence.

According to U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin’s office, Peters illegally sold approximately 250 30-milligram oxycodone pills in and around Fayette County.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John File handled the prosecution.
