Beckley police conducting a routine traffic stop arrested a man after they smelled marijuana in his car Thursday morning, Beckley Police Department Lt. Dave Farley reported.
Cpl. Adam Jones and Ptl. Joey Hunter stopped a vehicle around 11:30 a.m. on S. Kanawha Street in the University of Charleston district for “defective equipment,” according to Farley.
When the officers approached the car, they could “smell a strong odor of marijuana,” Farley said.
The driver, 35-year-old Aaron Hannah, admitted to police that he had “some marijuana” in a backpack that officers had spotted in the rear floor, Farley said.
When they opened the bag, police discovered nearly seven pounds of marijuana, with a street value of around $7,000, Farley added.
Hannah was arrested on one charge of possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
He was not listed at Southern Regional Jail on Thursday afternoon.
