‘Walk for a Cure’ event to be held today

The annual "Walk for a Cure" will be held Thursday in the Park Middle School Gymnasium, 212 Park Ave., Beckley.

The student council and wellness council are teaming up to raise funds for the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Students pay $1 for the walk. Students can also purchase a pink ribbon and/or a runners bib with the name of who they are walking for written on the bib for 50 cents.

The walk is typically outside, but due to possible inclement weather, the walk will be held in the gym. Eighth-graders walk from 8:15-8:45 a.m.,  seventh-graders walk from 9:45-10:15 a.m. and sixth-graders walk from 1:15-1:45 p.m.

The first lap for each of the three walks is called the  'survivor' lap. Faculty members who have beaten breast cancer lead the way in the first lap.
