Veterans sought for parade

American Legion Post 32 is calling on veterans to line up again to honor country and flag.

The annual Veteran’s Day parade is in the planning stages, and this year’s theme is “Honor Our Country and Flags,” said Ronald Jennings, commander of the Legion post.

Jennings urged area veterans’ organizations, businesses, individual veterans and any local nonprofit group or club to participate in the parade by hosting a float.

“We just request they do something in relationship to the theme,” said Jennings.

The parade will be held on Veteran’s Day, Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. through Uptown Beckley.

Line-up starts at Park Middle School at 10 a.m., and the parade will end at Beckley Police Department.

The commander said he hopes the current federal government shutdown doesn’t impact the community spirit and excitement that the Veteran’s Day parade brings to Beckley each year.

“What is happening with today’s government I ask to have no reflection on what these great men and women have done for our country and the sacrifices they’ve made for our freedom,” said Jennings.

Registration is free and will be open until Nov. 5. Forms are available by contacting the American Legion Post 32 at 304-252-2219 or Jennings at 304-237-5112.
