NRCTC to offer 6-week class ‘Finding a Job is a Job’

LEWISBURG — With most jobs, specific skills and talents are needed to be successful at what you do. But what are the skills needed to get a job?  

The New River Community and Technical College Office of Workforce Education will offer tips during a six-week noncredit class

titled “Finding a Job is a Job.” The class will meet Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Oct. 22 at a New River facility in Lewisburg.

Janice Cooley, a principle and coach with LifeSkills2Work, will assist participants in recognizing and developing unique job search skills and career management techniques and tools.

Topics covered include Branding “Me,” Writing a Winning Resume, Professional Interviewing Skills, Dressing for Career (and Personal) Success and Getting Recognized and Promoted at Work.

During the last class, local employers will review with the workshop participants what they look for in new employees.

Cooley is the chief consultant for Cooleyhill Consulting Inc., which she established to support organizations with strategic workforce planning and business development solutions. In addition, she is a principle and coach with the Life Skills2Work Corp., formed to support individuals and groups with developing job search skills, techniques and strategies through workshops, seminars and individual counseling.

Prior to consulting, Cooley worked with several Fortune 500 companies, including AT&T and Atlanta-based Cox Communications, where she established a new professional recruiting organization for all employee hiring.

Cooley received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Marshall University. In addition, she completed with honors a Human Resource Leadership Program at Stanford University, as well as an Advanced Management program at Rutgers University.

Cooley spends personal time mentoring high school students and is on the board of Communities in Schools of Greenbrier County.

Tuition for the course is $180. The registration deadline is Oct. 15. Class size is limited.
