From Staff Reports
Every year for the last 18 years, the Cranberry Baptist Church has presented “The Living Christmas Story” in December. This drive-thru presentation depicting the life of Christ has become a holiday tradition for the people in the community.
However, with the continual growth of the church, the membership is now expanding its facility and is in the middle of a major construction project. During this construction, the feasibility to even set up the scenes and to handle the traffic for the two-day presentations is not practical.
According to Assistant Pastor Ty Thomas, “It takes a lot of time and space to construct the different scenes which depict the life of Christ. With the building materials and construction itself, we will not be able to have ‘The Living Christmas Story’ this year.”
Roger Pauley, who has pastored the Cranberry Baptist Church for 24 years, explains that the expansion program for the church is really a two-phase project. Phase I began in September with the construction of a 10,000 square foot two-story building which will be the “connector” to a future Phase II Auditorium. This building will include a brand new kitchen, storage area and restrooms, while connecting directly to a newly remodeled and extended gymnasium.
The connector will also give access to the upper floor where an elevator will open directly into a check-in area to the spacious nursery and preschool department. The new addition includes several new classrooms and a new choir rehearsal room with great accessibility to the existing platform area.
The completion day for the expansion and remodel is scheduled for early May 2014.
Church officials say they are very disappointed ourselves that they cannot host “The Living Christmas Story” this year, but are very excited about the growth of the church.
Plans are under way to resume the drive-thru presentation next Christmas.
The pastor apologizes to the many friends, church family and neighbors of Cranberry Baptist Church for the inconvenience during the construction.
“We do praise the Lord for what God is doing and look forward to the days ahead.”
Pastor Pauley invites the public to attend two special Christmas Services. The church choir will present a Christmas Cantata entitled “Season of Light” Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 15 at 6 p.m.
The annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with Cranberry’s church family.
