Beckley Christmas parade trophy winners announced

Beckley’s annual Christmas parade was celebrated Saturday with the theme “A West Virginia Christmas” in honor of West Virginia’s 150th birthday. With about 100 entries in the parade, the following groups were selected as trophy winners:

Best Overall Entry – Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist

Religious: 1st – New Life Fellowship; 2nd – Faith Community Church; 3rd – Beckley Presbyterian Church

Organization: 1st – Godfrey Family; 2nd – The Karenettes; 3rd – Raleigh County Retired Service Employees with the Beckley Woman’s Club

Business: 1st – Family Coin Laundry; 2nd – Auto Detailing by ME; 3rd – Med Matrix

School: 1st – Greater Beckley Christian School; 2nd – Teel Educational Center; 3rd – Concord University

Best Walking Unit – UC-Beckley

Best Animal Unit – Raleigh County Horse Association Rodeo Team

Best Classic Car – Thelma Fitzwater – ’67 Red Mustang

Bands included Woodrow Wilson High School, Shady Spring High School, Beckley-Stratton Middle School, Park Middle School, Shady Spring Middle School and Trap Hill Middle School.

Any of the winning organizations that did not pick up their trophy at the awards ceremony following the parade, please stop by City Hall at 409 S. Kanawha St. between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The City of Beckley appreciates all of the parade participants for their community spirit. Thanks to everyone who attended and special thanks to the judges and the parade line-up volunteers, Julian Chipley, Todd Norris, Gavin Ward, Joe Guffy, Scott Worley, Sarge with the Civil Air Patrol and Beckley Police Department.
