Humane Society to host haunted trail

The Humane Society of Raleigh County will host a haunted trail next month and local businesses, groups and organizations are needed to make the event spooky and spectacular.

The haunted trail, “Helter Shelter presents Miss Macabre’s Carnevil and Freak Show,” will be held Oct. 26 at the 325 Gray Flats Road shelter location and the Humane Society is looking for groups to set up scenes along the trail.

Event coordinator Melissa Lyons said each scene will occupy a space approximately 10 feet by 10 feet.

“The group would be able to produce any scene they wish so long as it stays within the theme of carnival and freak show,” Lyons said.

All ideas must be approved by Lyons to ensure there are no duplicates.

Each group will set up backgrounds and provide characters or actors with makeup and costumes.

The public will vote on their favorite scene and the winner will be given an award and will be mentioned as a sponsor in the HSRC newsletter until the following year’s event.

“It’s a great way to advertise your business or group while helping out a worthy cause. The event is sure to be loads of fun for all involved and all proceeds will go to the HSRC to help care for the stray and abandoned animals that reside there until they can find their forever homes.”

Spaces are limited and are going quickly. The deadline to sign up for a trail space is Oct. 1, so Lyons encourages everyone to reserve their spots as soon as possible.

After enrollment is closed, an informational meeting and walk-through will be held at the shelter.
