Camp Barefoot Music Festival to feature several national acts

FROM STAFF REPORTS

— Sunshine, lush grass and colorful wildflowers make Bartow in Pocahontas County a perfect place for a summer musical festival, producer Scott McLain of Camp Barefoot Music Festival said.

The three-day festival starts Thursday and will feature music from national acts and more than a dozen independent artists,  McLain said.

The Seventh Annual Camp Barefoot at Bartow will feature two main stages with no overlapping sets and a “more intimate” stage located in the woods for serious nature lovers, he added.

“We are extremely lucky to have a chance to build a relationship with top-notch national acts, but we don’t forget our main purpose of bringing independent music to light,” said McLain. “To top it off, we were blessed with a beautiful meadow in West Virginia that gives us the opportunity to create this grassroots community event.”

McLain, owner of Stanlee Ventures — the company that produces Camp Barefoot — and a group of music lovers started Camp Barefoot in 2006 in Gore, Va.

The multi-day camping festival features performances from The Kyle Hollingsworth Band featuring Anders Osborne and The Motet Horns, EOTO, Conspirator, Keller Williams & More Than A Little (Solo Set & Full Band Set), Tea Leaf Green, Zoogma and many more.

McLain said CB7’s mission is to “exceed all expectations of what a summer festival can be.”

Artists at large for the weekend include Jennifer Hartswick of the Trey Anastasio Band, Nigel Hall of Lettuce, and Ras Puma of Thievery Corporation, who will be sharing moments throughout the festival.

Camp Barefoot attendees may choose from an eclectic variety of food, art, craft vendors, and more, said McLain.

The Silent Disco (produced by Silent Events) will be held for a second year.

Special activities are featured in the KidZone, where parents and children can enjoy the main-stage music while playing games or creating their own art projects as festival souvenirs.

Camp Barefoot also considers the environment, featuring recycling games and taking measures to reduce waste and environmental impact.

The festival will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
