BECKLEY —
The Raleigh County sheriff’s office announced several promotions during a brief ceremony Wednesday. Officers were given certificates during the ceremony.
Sheriff Steve Tanner said Raleigh County is “blessed” to have such dedicated employees and the support from the Raleigh County Commission.
“We are truly unique and blessed with the backing of the commission,” he said. ‘We are not restricted by budget. We have had restrictions such as positions not being open to be filled but have not had restrictions on money to promote.”
Promoted to corporal were Dave Stafford, Roger Burcham, Matt Price, Jason Redden, Roger Richmond, Les Lambert, Raymond Hall and Randy White.
Promoted to sergeant were William Crist, Mark McCray and Mike Webb.
Promoted to lieutenant were James P. Vance, Randy Burgess and Kevin Hopkins.
Promoted to captain were Joe Williams and Mitchell “Skee” Barley.
“Promotions are not an act of the individual alone,” Tanner said.
“They come from the support and hard work put in by the sheriff’s department and the community.
“The department needs to be a family as well.”
By acting as a family, Tanner said he believes the department will continue to grow to its full potential.
“What you do dictates who we are,” he said.
“You make this department the best it can be.”
