Batman, The Flash and a few other local superheroes are taking a break from fighting crime to help out the Women’s Resource Center.
Every year, FedEx Ground in Beaver teams up with the United Way to support a local charitable organization. This year the Women’s Resource Center was selected and the FedEx crew decided on a fun theme — superheroes.
“We’re spreading our superhero powers,” operations manager Keya Thomas said.
“We chose Women’s Resource Center this year and it’s getting closer to winter, so we know a lot of people need clothes and food items.”
Thomas said the company-wide donation collection started at the beginning of October (Domestic Violence Awareness Month) and each week they had a different collection theme, from food to clothing to personal care items.
The crew plans to make its donation at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
“Batman will be there for sure, and the Flash, but I’m not sure who else might be there,” she said.
“It’s great to just give back and help out any way we can to people of the community and our customers as well. We may have family that have gone through it. We just want to give back and let them know we care and we’re willing to help.”
WRC Public Relations and Fundraising Development Coordinator Dee Sizemore said donations like the ones provided by FedEx Ground are essential to the survival of the Women’s Resource Center.
“Women’s Resource Center could not provide the free, confidential services to victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children without contributions from businesses and individuals in the communities we serve,” Sizemore said.
“The generosity shown by FedEx Ground employees is overwhelming and very appreciated. Anyone can help us by donating time as a volunteer, donating funds, or donating needed new, unused items such as clothing, household items, personal care products, etc.”
