Local artisans are kicking off the holiday season with an open house Saturday, Nov. 9, and they are inviting everyone to come see what they have to offer.
The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Diana Pittis’ studio, at 611 Grandview Road in Daniels.
Her pottery will be featured as well as work from the following Tamarack artists: Nancy O’Farrell, dichroic jewelry and pottery; Michael Sizemore, metal sculpture; Carmen File, textiles; Mary Pritchard, pottery; Kay Payne, watercolors.
Pittis said she is encouraging everyone to do their holiday shopping locally this year.
“I believe it’s really essential to support your local community.”
She said she frequents the Greenbrier Nursery, which sells locally grown produce.
“Those small business owners count on selling produce for income. My artisan friends and myself are in the exact same situation. We live by selling the work we make.”
She said there is no reason to ship their art to New York or California when there are plenty of people in the area who could purchase a locally made gift for their loved ones this holiday season.
“There is beautiful work being made here, right in everybody’s back yard.”
Pittis has been hosting this open house for 10 years and she said she has quite a gathering of faithful customers, but she is always looking for new buyers.
“Come see beautiful work. It’s right in your back yard. We’ll have food and wine. Come say hello and have something to eat. There is no obligation to buy anything.”
