— One woman died as a result of injuries after a Friday afternoon wreck along U.S. 19 near Oak Hill.

The wreck caused the northbound lane to be closed for approximately one hour.

Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler said a Dodge Neon driven by Frances Catherine Fish, 52, of Lookout, attempted to cross the southbound lane of U.S. 19 from West Virginia 612 with the intent to turn northbound at approximately 12:43 p.m.

Fish pulled in front of a southbound GMC utility van, driven by Michael E. Lilly, 39, of Princewick, Kessler said. The two vehicles collided in the southbound lane, but came to a rest in the northbound lanes.

Firefighters from Oak Hill and Mount Hope Fire Departments spent about 20 minutes extricating Fish from her vehicle. Fish was transported to Plateau Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Kessler says.

Lilly received minor injuries and was also transported to Plateau Medical Center, Kessler said.

The accident is still under investigation.
