Wildwood House Museum will be open to the public for free tours from noon to 2 p.m. Monday following the Veterans Day parade.
Wildwood House is the historic home of Beckley’s founder, Gen. Alfred C. Beckley, a graduate of West Point. The home was built in 1835 in its current location, and was home to Beckley family members until the turn of the 20th century.
It was restored and opened as a museum by Beckley’s descendants in 1987. It was deeded to the City of Beckley in 1993.
Numerous historic artifacts are housed at Wildwood, from the first piano in Raleigh County to Gen. Beckley’s West Point canteen and sword. The city and the Raleigh County Historical Society sponsor a variety of functions at the museum.
