Shelters and closures

 

Shelters:

Greenbrier County residents can to find out if emergency shelters are open by calling 304-646-5260.

Raleigh County Senior Center on South Kanawha Street will be closed for normal programs, but will be open as an emergency shelter only for those with respiratory problems and the elderly. Please bring concentrators, nebulizers and medication.

In Raleigh, shelters will also be established at the Beckley Dream Center and Raleigh County Community Action.

In Wyoming, emergency shelters are up and running at Cook Memorial Baptist Church in Pineville, Oceana City Hall, and Mullens Opportunity Center.

In Fayette County, First Church of God in Fayetteville is open as an emergency shelter.



Closures:

Raleigh County Schools, Greater Beckley Christian School, Happy Kids Preschool and the YMCA of Southern West Virginia will all be closed today. Fayette and Greenbrier County schools are also closed today.

The Rainelle Medical Center was closed Tuesday due to weather. This includes the main facility in Rainelle and satellite health centers in Meadow Bridge and Alderson. Call to verify if the facility will be open today, 304-438-6188.

Bluefield State College’s Beckley and Bluefield campuses are closed.

Concord University’s Beckley and Athens campuses are closed today.

Mountain State University classes are on a two-hour delay.

The Academy of Careers and Technology has canceled night classes.

All branches of the Raleigh County Public Library were closed Tuesday. All items due that day will not be considered late.



Trick or treat:

Beckley and Raleigh County have postponed trick or treat from Wednesday to Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The City of White Sulphur Springs will postpone trick or treat from Wednesday to Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Oak Hill Halloween observance has been postponed until Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Rainelle has canceled trick or treating and will reschedule it at a later date.

Lewisburg: Saturday, Nov. 3, 6 to 8 p.m.; only homes with porch lights on

Ronceverte: Saturday, Nov. 3, 6 to 8 p.m.; only homes with porch lights on

Rupert: Saturday, Nov. 3, 6 to 8 p.m.; children under 12

  • Police Department to conduct DUI checkpoint

    The Beckley Police Department will conduct a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint from 9 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday on Pinewood Drive. An alternate location will be U.S. 19. The checkpoint will be supported by roving DUI Enforcement Patrols throughout the evening and night time hours.
