Greenbrier County Grand Jury returns indictments

— A Greenbrier County Grand Jury meeting Tuesday and Wednesday handed up indictments against 65 individuals.

Among those indicted was a Charleston man facing three felony and two misdemeanor charges connected to the alleged 2011 theft of a printing machine from The Greenbrier resort and the later printing of 31 fraudulent credentials for the 2012 Greenbrier Classic PGA golf tournament.

Steven Paul Vanhorn, 24, is charged with the felony of stealing a Fargo high-definition 600 printing machine valued at nearly $10,000. The alleged theft took place sometime between July 24 and July 31, 2011, according to the indictment.

The printing fraud felony occurred between the dates of July 2 and July 6, 2012, the indictment charges. The value of the fake credentials was put in excess of $1,000.

Vanhorn is also charged in the indictment with the felony of entering the CSXIP building, located on property owned by The Greenbrier, with “the intent to commit a felony or any larceny therein,” on July 4, 2012.

On that same date, he is accused of stealing an envelope containing “an assortment of concert and golf tournament admission tickets.” The value of those items, which were the property of the Greenbrier Classic or its licensees, was set at $756, making that crime a misdemeanor.

The second misdemeanor charge also involves an alleged theft, this one occurring between July 2 and July 6, 2012. The indictment alleges Vanhorn stole an assortment of Greenbrier Classic apparel and merchandise valued at less than $1,000.

The indictments against Vanhorn were returned based upon the testimony of Trooper First Class J.J. Phillips of the West Virginia State Police.

Cases assigned to Judge Pomponio, Jr. are scheduled for arraignment on Oct. 23 at 9 a.m.; Judge Rowe is holding arraignments on cases assigned to his court on Oct. 24 at 9 a.m.

Names appearing at the end of each individual indictment indicate the arresting officer.
