Rick Staton, Wyoming County prosecuting attorney, is leaving his county office to take a job with state government, he announced Friday afternoon.
“It is with both nervousness and excitement that I’m announcing that I will be leaving the prosecuting attorney’s office on March 16, when I will become the deputy secretary of the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety,” Staton said.
“This was a very difficult decision, and not at all based on any dissatisfaction with my job or the wonderful people I work with.
“It came down to simply that it is hard to say no to the governor when he calls and asks you to serve,” Staton said.
“God has blessed my life beyond what any person should expect,” he added. “Wyoming County will always be my home, and I am proud to be just a kid from Mullens, W.Va., who has had more opportunities to which he was entitled.”
