The YMCA of Southern West Virginia will celebrate Healthy Kids Day, a free community event to get kids moving and families living healthier, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 7 at the Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex.
“Summer is the time for kids to get up, get out and grow, but sometimes when the school year ends, so does a child’s exposure to activities that keep the body and mind active,” said Y Health and Fitness Director Reginia Thomas.
“Our event will include fun active play and educational activities that will inspire kids to carry a spirit of excitement and exploration throughout their summer and give them the tools to keep growing and achieving all year long.”
The event will kick off with a Fun Run followed by activities such as jumping rope and hula hooping, along with Zumba and cross training for kids. There will also be a hand-washing station and a healthy snack station, and Med Express and the Beckley Fire Department will be on hand to provide information.
Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of families and to help them get a jump on creating a healthier summer.
Registration will be the day of the event, and the first 150 kids to register will receive free T-shirts.
