Classic Car Cruise is set for Friday

The streets of Uptown Beckley will be lined with classic cars Friday evening for the Classic Car Cruise, and live entertainment will be provided by The Backtimers and American Idol contestant Jada Vance.

The cruise, which is being held in conjunction with the Friends of Coal Auto Fair, will leave the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex at 6 p.m., follow U.S. 19 to Johnstown Road to Kanawha Street, cruise along the old Valley Drive (now Robert C. Byrd Drive), and arrive in uptown to fill the streets of Neville, Heber and Main.

Beckley Renaissance Director Jill Moorefield said dash plaques will be provided to 100 vehicle owners who check in uptown. Participants will be eligible to win specialty trophies, including selections by Mayor Bill O’Brien and other city departments.

Drivers who register with the Friends of Coal Auto Fair before 5:45 p.m. have the option to be in both shows, the uptown Classic Car Cruise and the FOC Auto Fair.

Attendees during the uptown event can check out vendor booths and enjoy free music provided by The Backtimers at Jim Word Memorial Park from 6:45 to 8:20 p.m. and Jada Vance at Shoemaker Square from 7 to 8 p.m.

According to their website, The Backtimers is a four-piece band based in southern West Virginia with Kevin McGraw on vocals and guitar, Dale Chappell on drums, Joe Dew on lead guitar and Jeffrey Joe Buckland on vocals and bass.

The Backtickers cover a broad variety of styles, including rock, funk, blues, country and Americana.

Jada Vance performed on season 12 of American Idol and has since made multiple appearances in West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as performances to benefit MRSA awareness and Relay for Life.

Vance grew up in West Virginia and says she has a deep love for country music.

She is currently working with a team under an artist development program, learning songwriting, guitar, piano, photography, videography, stage performance and social media marketing.
