Grant writing workshops today, March 23 in Fayette County

— Two upcoming grant writing workshops in diverse areas of Fayette County aim to expand residents’ tool kits for community improvement.

The first, today, is free in Fayetteville and sponsored by the Third District Accelerator program.

Geared towards small businesses; civic, health and community organizations; students and educators; entrepreneurs; and others, the free workshop begins at 1 p.m. in the County Commission Room of the Fayette County Courthouse.

For those who live in the Valley district, the Upper Kanawha Valley Economic Development Commission (UKVEDC) announces another grant writing workshop on March 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Upper Kanawha Valley Community Technology Building in Montgomery.

It is co-sponsored by the UKVEDC, Montgomery General Hospital, and Bridgemont Sustainability Institute.

According to organizers, the course will serve as a basic introduction to grant writing, teaching participants how to identify an opportunity and research funding sources, among other topics.

The class will be taught by Christy Bailey, executive director of the Coal Heritage Highway Authority and the National Coal Heritage Area Authority.

Bailey is responsible for the historic preservation and heritage tourism development of the National Coal Heritage Area in southern West Virginia and along the Coal Heritage Trail, a national scenic byway.

The March 23 class costs $20 and the sign-up deadline is March 18. Space is limited to 30 participants.

Registration includes lunch and session materials.
