Deadline to enroll in Raleigh County pre-kindergarten for next year is March 18
Parents hoping to place children in Raleigh County Schools’ pre-kindergarten program next fall must enroll by March 18.
Carol Cooper, Raleigh County Pre-K director, said parents may enroll children who will be 4 years old by September 1.
To enroll, download an application from the Raleigh County Schools website or pick up a copy at any Raleigh County Pre-K site (all elementary schools), Head Start or YMCA Happy Kids.
The forms can be returned to any site before March 18.
“We want to get all our four-year-olds in the county taken care of,” said Cooper. “Several of our schools have called and said they felt they have not seen as many parents pick up enrollment packets as they have anticipated.”
Supporting documents and health exams are not needed for enrollment by March 18.
Once kids are enrolled at a site, a birth certificate, social security card, immunization record, proof of income, and a health check including speech, vision and hearing, will be needed to complete the registration process.
“Parents don’t have to necessarily enroll in the home district,” Cooper said. “We hope to meet the needs of the community, and for many parents enrolling in a pre-K at their home school does not meet their needs. Many parents prefer to have their child enrolled near a grandparent or near their work.”
She noted Raleigh County has both full and half day sites.
Instructions for applying are included with each application. Applications are available online at http://www.edline. net/pages/Raleigh_CSD/Important_Pre-K_forms_for_Rale.
