Watch for ice this morning

Commuters should beware this morning as ice accumulation and freezing rain are anticipated between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A freezing rain advisory has been issued for Fayette, Raleigh and Wyoming counties.

Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe and Summers counties are also under a winter weather advisory.

Joe Merchant, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Char-leston, said early morning today will be the worst weather this week, but temperatures will jump into the mid-30s in the afternoon and reach up to 41 degrees later in the day.

Any precipitation later today, with the exception of the higher elevations, is expected to be rain, he said.

With a wind warning issued for Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming counties, freezing rain might not be the only concern.

Merchant said winds are expected to average 20 to 30 miles per hour from the southeast with possible gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

The worst of the weather will hit this morning, but some light snow may be forecast for later this week.

The slow-moving storm will linger in our area Thursday although any snow or wintry mix will be insignificant, he said.
