Sheriff: Virginia fugitive arrested in West Virginia

A man wanted in Virginia on two counts of selling and distributing a Schedule III drug was arrested Thursday in Greenbrier County, authorities say.

Sheriff’s Cpl. Doris Vandall and Deputy Jack Ferguson II took Charles M. Smith, 36, of Russell County, Va., into custody at a residence in Rainelle, according to Sheriff James Childers.

Childers said deputies located Smith when they responded to a call that two individuals were refusing to leave a residence.

Upon arrival at the residence, deputies checked for outstanding warrants on the two subjects, at which time Smith was arrested.

Smith was transported to Southern Regional Jail. He is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
