Greenbrier County authorities say no foul play is suspected in the death of a 12-day-old baby.
Around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, sheriff’s Deputy W.K. Nester was dispatched to a Rupert residence, Sheriff Jim Childers said.
An infant was reportedly not breathing.
Nester arrived and found the 12-day-old boy unresponsive and family members attempting CPR, Childers said.
Emergency medical service personnel took the baby to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, where he was pronounced dead.
Childers said authorities do not suspect foul play. However, Nester and Deputy R.B. Baker are investigating as a matter of protocol.
The body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office in South Charleston for an autopsy.
The names of the parents and the baby are not being released.
