Police say a 21-year-old Greenbrier County man was shot while he was in his backyard Monday evening.
According to sheriff’s Chief Deputy Kirby Hanson, the shooting happened on 4th Street in Rupert between 5 and 6 p.m.
The victim, identified as Travis Wickline, was apparently outside his home when he heard shots coming from a wooded area in his backyard.
Wickline suffered a minor gunshot wound to his forearm, Hanson said. He was treated at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea and released.
Police weren’t sure Tuesday if the accident was hunting-related.
Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s department at 304-647-6634.
The incident remains under investigation by Deputy Roger Baker.
