W.Va. diggers face deadline to get ginseng certified

By The Associated Press

CHARLESTON — Time is running out for ginseng diggers in West Virginia.

The ginseng digging season that started on Sept. 1 ends on Nov. 30.

Ginseng roots can be taken to any one of 10 Division of Forestry weigh stations for certification and weighing.

Diggers and dealers have until March 31 to have their roots certified and weighed.

From April 1 through Aug. 31, it’s illegal to possess uncertified ginseng roots or roots that don’t have weight receipts.
