Marshall faculty to investigate grade change

By The Associated Press

HUNTINGTON — The executive committee of Marshall University’s Faculty Senate will investigate the A grades for two courses awarded to the daughter of state Treasurer John Perdue.

The committee made its decision after receiving a petition with 42 faculty signatures. The student was not named in the petition. The signatures, though, were collected by professor Laura Wyant, and the petition says the grades in question were awarded for work in 2009.

Perdue’s daughter, Emily, took two courses with Wyant this spring. Perdue received incomplete grades from Wyant, but Provost Gayle Ormiston has said Perdue completed the coursework over the summer.

Marshall conducted a review earlier this year and found nothing inappropriate. The Perdues have said Emily did not receive special treatment.
