Workshop to teach how to make rain barrel

Rain barrels can be used to conserve water around the home and to help manage stormwater runoff.

The Piney Creek Watershed Association will have a rain barrel workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority.

Participants will learn the various aspects of rain barrel construction, installation and usage, and will have an opportunity to assemble their own rain barrel.

“This water can be used to water gardens, wash cars and for a variety of other purposes to conserve water usage around the home,” said John Krizel, Green Community Program coordinator for the watershed association.

The rain barrels are constructed from reconditioned 55-gallon food-grade plastic barrels.

Assembly is minimal and assistance will be provided to those unable to assemble their own rain barrels.

Cost is $50 per person.

For more information, contact Krizel at 304-228-1683 or via e-mail at john.krizel@gmail.com.

The workshop is supported by a grant from the Beckley Area Foundation with technical assistance provided by the Beckley Sanitary Board Stormwater Program.
