Halloween all treats, not tricks

By Jessica Farrish

Not only was Halloween 2009 wetter than average, but police and other emergency responders said Sunday that they were treated to fewer tricks than in recent years.

Officials in Raleigh, Fayette, Wyoming, Greenbrier, Summers, Monroe and Nicholas counties reported no increased incidents of crime on Saturday evening.

One Raleigh official reported that several Halloween-related calls were made to 911, but they were not serious offenses.

Wyoming County — notorious in the region for reporting higher-than-average numbers of Halloween pranks in past years — saw a decrease in “tricks,” too.

“We had one minor call,” a worker with the Wyoming Emergency Operations Center said Sunday. “It turned out not to be Halloween-related.

“This is the first time in years we could say we were blessed.”
