Halloween tricks: Vandals down trees, set fires in road

By Mary Catherine Brooks

Vandals downed nearly 40 trees in Long Branch this week as Halloween approaches.

In addition to the trees, vandals have set four fires in the road, according to Oliver Stewart, Wyoming County Division of Highways supervisor, who said downed trees and fires occur in the area this time each year.

He said DOH crews have been on the road in the area beginning at 3 a.m. daily in order to keep the roads open for school buses. The county Sheriff’s Department also has extra patrols in the area. On a handful of occasions, vandals kept buses from making their complete runs, he said.
