Report: Job cuts lead to insurance loss in W.Va.

CHARLESTON — A new report says the sting of losing a job is worse for nearly 17,000 West Virginians who also lost their health insurance.

The Washington, D.C.,-based nonprofit Families USA estimated Tuesday that roughly 16,900 West Virginians have lost health coverage this year through job loss.

Although the unemployment rate in West Virginia fell between August and September, the state’s jobless rate is significantly higher than in 2008.
