A car plunged down a 200-foot embankment Thursday in Richwood, sending the driver to a Charleston hospital, city police said.
The accident on Horse Ridge Road was reported around 10:30 a.m. Patrolman S.M. Louden said Stephanie Fraley, 24, of Summersville, was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero east toward the center of the city. Fraley told police she was not paying attention.
Louden said Fraley’s vehicle ran off the road and plunged down a 200-foot embankment. Fraley managed to get out of the car, climb 30 feet up the embankment and call 911 on her own. She was able to speak to police at the scene. She was airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center, mainly as a precaution. Personnel believed she could have punctured a lung.
Fraley was listed as under evaluation at CAMC Thursday afternoon.
Louden said no alcohol or drug use was suspected. No citations have been issued.
