Greater Beckley Christian School will hold its sixth annual Fall Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The event will take place in the school gymnasium at 140 Crusader Drive in Prosperity.
“Our fall festival is our annual fall fundraiser,” GBCS principal James Fritz said. “It funds the operational expenses and scholarships at GBCS. The public is invited to have a wonderful time of fun and fellowship. We’d love anyone who’d like to come, to come out and share the time with us.”
The festival will feature food and games from around the world.
A variety of food items, including Italian pastas, Mexican, Chinese and German delicacies, Swiss chocolate, hot dogs and apple pie, will be vended.
The public will have an opportunity bid on gift baskets, WVU-Marshall Friends of Coal Bowl football tickets, rafting trips, a one-hour sightseeing flight above Beckley, in-home maid services, handmade quilts, spa baskets, a custom-painted corn hole game, movie tickets, gift certificates and baked goods, among other items, in a silent auction.
There will also be a slime the teacher contest, where GBCS students will have an opportunity to “slime” their teachers, Fritz said.
“It’s a kid-friendly event. There will be all kinds of games for kids of all ages — 3 and up through high school. Everyone is welcome, ” he said.
GBCS coordinator Diane Harvey says it’s the one event everyone looks forward to each year.
“Everyone gets involved with it,” she said. “With the students, each grade has a country. They learn about their country, make posters and do statistics to learn about the culture of their country. At their booth, they serve their country’s food. The students, teachers and parents are all involved. It’s a lot of fun.”
