Beckley Police say a North Carolina resident who came into Raleigh General Hospital with a gunshot wound could not remember exactly where he had been shot, but their investigation continues.
The incident at Raleigh General Hospital was reported at 3:48 a.m. Saturday, Chief Tim Deems said.
Capt. Jeff Shumate, chief of detectives, said the 34-year-old man had one gunshot wound on his arm that apparently came from a handgun. The man told an officer he was shot outside a local tavern, but he was unsure about its location. He was unable to give enough of a description of where the incident occurred. Police do not know if it was inside or outside Beckley city limits.
Shumate said police are attempting to find out where the incident took place and if it is in the city limits, Shumate said. From there, they can try to identify potential witnesses and suspects.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Beckley Police Department at 304-256-1708 or Crime Stoppers at 304-255-7867. Crime Stoppers also accepts tips online at www.crimestoppersofraleighco.org.
