Ronceverte administrator plans move to Wisconsin

Ronceverte’s city administrator is on the verge of leaving the River City for a similar position with the village of Kronenwetter, Wis.

Blaine Oborn said he first interviewed for the Wisconsin post on March 21, having applied in January.

“We’re pretty close to reaching an agreement,” Oborn confirmed Thursday when contacted by The Register-Herald. “Probably by the middle of next week we’ll be finalizing the terms, and I’ll tender my resignation to Ronceverte shortly after that.”

He emphasized that while he has not yet officially given his 30-day notice, Ronceverte’s mayor and city council are fully aware of his plans.

“They (Kronenwetter officials) did a thorough background check. They spoke to everybody here,” Oborn said. “I didn’t want any of this to be a surprise, so I kept council and the mayor apprised of what I was doing.”

Mayor Gail White did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment on Oborn’s situation.

Oborn has been the city administrator in Ronceverte the past four years.

“This has been a positive and rewarding experience,” he commented on his time in Greenbrier County. “But I’m looking forward to going to a larger city with the skills I now have and applying what I learned here to Kronenwetter.”

He added, “In both size and salary, it’s a step up.”

Located in Marathon County, Kronenwetter has a population of 6,300. The village was incorporated in 2002 and is governed by a board of trustees, headed by village president Judith Ahey.
