Several area municipalities are holding elections for city offices today.
In Raleigh County, contested elections are set for Sophia, where incumbent Harry Taylor is being challenged by former mayor Danny Barr for the town’s top spot.
Ansted in Fayette County election is being contested today and in Greenbrier County’s town of Ronceverte.
Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.
Other area towns have elections scheduled June 9. They are:
- Raleigh County: Rhodell and Mabscott
- Summers County: Hinton.
- Fayette County: Thurmond, Gauley Bridge and Meadow Bridge.
- Greenbrier County: Renick, Quinwood, Lewisburg, Rainelle, Rupert and White Sulphur Springs.
- Monroe County: Alderson, Peterstown and Union.

Cities to receive housing grants
