Three injured in two wrecks on same road

Three people were taken to hospitals after two wrecks on the same roadway that happened in about an hour’s time, authorities said.

At 11:45 p.m., Scott Bivens, 29, of Princewick, was driving a black 1973 Yamaha motorcycle on Coal City Road in Pemberton, Raleigh County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dave Stafford said. Bivens, who was not wearing a helmet, left the roadway and went over an embankment. He struck several bushes and small trees on the way down.

Bivens was taken to Raleigh General Hospital, and the extent of his injuries was unknown, Stafford said. Bivens was cited for driving with a revoked license, failure to maintain control of a vehicle and having no motorcycle helmet.

Deputy E.E. Jarrett investigated the accident.

At 1:10 a.m., Michael Bauguess, 18, of Sophia, was driving a 1998 Ford Windstar minivan, also on Coal City Road in Pemberton, Stafford said. The vehicle left the roadway’s right edge and the driver lost control when re-entering. The van then rolled over and struck a utility pole.

Three passengers were also inside the van at that time, two 17-year-old boys and one 16-year-old girl, Stafford said. Two people, but it was unknown who, were taken to local hospitals. All injuries were believed to be minor.

No citations were issued.

Deputy C.D. Suman investigated the later accident.
