Utilities now fully operational in Raleigh County flood zones

Garbage bins available for flood debris in Rhodell, Amigo

Authorities say Raleigh County flood victims’ lives are slowly returning to normal, with utilities fully operational, but another set of flood debris garbage bins is en route.

Marty Agee, deputy director of the Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center, said water service in Rhodell has been totally usable since last Friday. A boil water advisory has been lifted. Last week, town residents saw their water service restored, but water could only be used for household chores and boiled before that. All utilities in Rhodell and hard-hit Amigo are working.

In Amigo, a Devil’s Fork Road bridge heavily damaged by floodwaters is passable, Agee said. But at last update, the state Division of Highways still needed to complete the finishing touches like guard rail replacement.

Today, both Rhodell and Amigo will receive a third garbage bin to be used only for flood debris, Agee said. Residents are gradually cleaning up, and the EOC has followed up on all damage reports.

“Everyone is slowly getting back to normal,” she said.
